Information about the voucher system

The daycare places are co-financed by the city of Hamburg via vouchers. Part of the childcare costs is financed by the city. The amount of the family’s own contribution is calculated by the responsible youth welfare office depending on the family income.

Vouchers must be applied for at the responsible district youth welfare office. For all children from the age of one, there is a legal entitlement to 5 hours of care plus lunch daily from 08/01/2014, regardless of whether the parents are employed or in education.

For care times exceeding this: The entitlement to the voucher amount is based on the daily working or training time of the parents. The family’s contribution to the childcare costs is determined by the youth welfare office depending on income. In order to assess the individual family situation, we are happy to offer parents personal advice on this topic if required.
